The book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings, helping us to live a godly lifestyle in an ungodly world.
It is not coincidental that there are around 2,100 verses in the bible dealing with poverty. Sometimes we can think that people are poor because they are lazy, but more often than not, poverty is linked to oppression and exploitation.
The message is clear: faith without works is dead. There is only one kind of saving faith – the one that bears the fruit of good works.
We cannot have true faith without corresponding good works.
God does not love us because we are good; we are good because God loves us. Faith without works is bribery. Works without faith is slavery. Faith with works is Christianity.
A few years ago, it became trendy for every organisation to have a mission statement: something that would tell others in clear, simple terms what the organisation was trying to achieve.
We’ve never really had a mission statement at Hands of Compassion, but I think the words of Jesus in Luke 4:18-19 best describe who we hope to be:
